In a thrilling encounter at Eden Gardens in the IPL 2024 clash, Venkatesh Iyer propelled the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to a resounding victory over the Delhi Capitals with a stunning maximum. The left-handed batter showcased his prowess by dispatching a length delivery from Rasikh Dar over the long-off boundary, as the home side cruised to a seven-wicket win.
Heading into the 17th over of the innings, the Knight Riders required a mere three runs to secure victory. Although the first two deliveries failed to yield any runs, Iyer rose to the occasion and hammered the winning runs, steering his side past the target of 154. His partnership with Shreyas Iyer remained unbroken at 57, enabling the two-time champions to bounce back from a recent heavy defeat against the Punjab Kings.
The foundation for KKR’s triumph was laid by Phil Salt’s explosive innings at the top of the order. Salt’s blistering knock of 68 runs off just 33 deliveries, featuring seven fours and five sixes, set the tone for the home side. Despite Axar Patel managing to dismiss both Salt and Sunil Narine, KKR maintained their dominance throughout the game.
With this commanding performance, Venkatesh Iyer not only steered his team to victory but also showcased his mettle as a match-winner in the IPL arena. The Kolkata Knight Riders will look to build on this momentum as they continue their campaign in the tournament.
