During the recent IPL match between Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), a moment of sheer brilliance unfolded when ball kid Atharw Gupta showcased lightning-fast reflexes to take a catch just outside the boundary ropes. Little did he know that this split-second action would reverberate across the internet and lead to an unexpected encounter with LSG’s fielding coach, Jonty Rhodes.
The incident occurred as Marcus Stoinis played an upper cut, sending the ball soaring over the boundary. Atharw sprang into action, swiftly positioning himself to make the catch. Cameras captured the moment, focusing on the LSG dugout where Rhodes was seen applauding the youngster’s exceptional effort.
Following the match, which saw KKR secure a dominant 98-run victory, Rhodes sought out Atharw for a meeting. A video of their interaction was shared by the IPL on social media platforms, depicting Rhodes imparting fielding and catching tips to the awe-struck youngster.
Despite LSG’s defeat, KKR’s performance was commendable, with opener Sunil Narine’s explosive 81 off 39 balls propelling them to a formidable total of 235 for 6 at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow. In response, LSG faltered, failing to capitalize on promising starts as they were bowled out for just 137 runs in 16.1 overs.
While the match outcome favored KKR, the enduring highlight was Atharw Gupta’s incredible catch, which not only captured the attention of cricket enthusiasts worldwide but also provided him with an unforgettable moment shared with a fielding legend.
