Legendary Indian wicketkeeper-batter and former captain, MS Dhoni, is set to create another milestone in his illustrious cricketing career. As the Chennai Super Kings gear up to face the Mumbai Indians this Sunday, April 14, in the IPL 2024, all eyes will be on Dhoni, who is on the verge of joining an elite group of cricketers. At 42 years of age, Dhoni is just four runs shy of reaching 5000 T20 runs for the Chennai Super Kings, a feat achieved only by Suresh Raina before him.
Dhoni, who has been a cornerstone of the Chennai-based franchise across both the IPL and the Champions League, has amassed 4996 runs in 249 matches. A mere four runs in the upcoming match, which will be the 29th of this IPL season, will see him join Raina in the prestigious 5000-run club. Raina, during his tenure with CSK, scored a commendable 5529 runs in 200 matches.
Achieving this milestone will not only highlight Dhoni’s consistency and longevity but will also mark him as the fourth Indian to score over 5000 runs for a single team in T20 cricket. This elite list includes Virat Kohli (8006 runs for RCB), Rohit Sharma (5470 runs for MI), and Raina himself. As the most capped player in the history of IPL, Dhoni continues to set benchmarks in the league, demonstrating his enduring skill and leadership.
This Sunday’s match promises not only a potentially record-setting performance from one of cricket’s greatest but also a thrilling clash between the two most successful teams in IPL history. Fans of the sport can look forward to witnessing another historic moment in Dhoni’s storied career.
