In a thrilling encounter between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Punjab Kings (PBKS) during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, all-rounder Daryl Mitchell from CSK grabbed headlines not just with his performance on the field but also with his funky dance moves.
CSK, defending a target of 167 runs, dominated the Punjab batters from the outset. The momentum was set early on by Tushar Deshpande, who claimed key wickets including Jonny Bairstow and Rilee Rossouw in the second over.
However, it was the spin wizard Ravindra Jadeja who truly mesmerized the crowd with his exceptional left-arm spin bowling. Jadeja struck crucial blows, dismissing Prabhsimran Singh in the ninth over and later removing Sam Curran and Ashutosh Sharma in the 13th over. Curran fell victim to Mitchell Santner’s safe hands at long-off, while Ashutosh was caught by Simarjeet Singh at short third man.
As Simarjeet completed the catch, the cameras captured Daryl Mitchell stationed at the point, breaking into a hilarious dance to celebrate the wicket. The video of Mitchell’s impromptu dance routine quickly went viral on social media, earning him praise for his infectious energy and spirit on the field.
Despite some resistance from PBKS, they could only manage to reach 139/9 in their allotted 20 overs, falling short by 28 runs. This defeat marked their seventh loss of the season, leaving them languishing in the eighth position in the IPL standings with just eight points from 11 matches.
In contrast, CSK’s victory propelled them to the third position in the table with six wins from 11 matches. With an impressive Net Run Rate (NRR) of +0.700, the Super Kings are well-poised for a strong finish in the tournament.
