In the midst of a challenging World Cup 2023 campaign for the England cricket team, an integral member, 33-year-old all-rounder David Willey, has made a significant announcement. The England Cricket Board did not include him in their annual contract for 2023-24, as he contributed with 42 runs and picked up five wickets at an economy rate of 27.20 in the lower order across three matches for England.
Taking to social media, David Willey expressed, “Dreaming of playing for the England cricket team was my aspiration, even as I grew older. After much contemplation, I have sadly decided to bid farewell to international cricket after the World Cup. I have worn the England jersey with immense pride and dedicated everything to the badge on my chest. Being part of an incredible white-ball team with some of the world’s finest players has been an extraordinary privilege. Along the way, I’ve forged special memories, made great friends, and weathered some challenging times. To my wife, two children, my mom, and dad, I’m forever grateful for your sacrifices and unwavering support in pursuing my dreams. Thank you for sharing those cherished memories and picking up the pieces when I was broken – I am eternally grateful.”
