The Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) has brought in former West Indian all-rounder Dwayne Bravo as their bowling consultant for the 2024 T20 World Cup, starting from June 1 in the West Indies and U.S.A. Known for his success in T20 cricket and key contributions to West Indies’ World Cup wins, Bravo will assist Afghanistan in their preparations for the tournament.
With an unparalleled record of 625 wickets in T20 cricket at an average of 24.29 and an economy rate of 8.24 from 573 matches, Bravo brings a wealth of experience and expertise to the Afghan side. His prowess in death bowling and his significant contributions to various T20 leagues worldwide make him a valuable addition to Afghanistan’s coaching staff.
Afghanistan, fresh from a 2-1 series win against Ireland in their recent T20I encounter, will kick off their World Cup campaign with warm-up matches against Oman and Scotland on May 29 and May 31, respectively. Their journey in the 2024 T20 World Cup begins on June 4 against Uganda in Guyana, where they will compete in Group C alongside Uganda, New Zealand, West Indies, and Papua New Guinea.
In preparation for the tournament, Afghanistan has named leg-spin maestro Rashid Khan as the captain of the 15-member squad. Despite their promising performances in the 2022 T20 World Cup, Afghanistan aims to improve upon their previous showing, where they went winless in five matches, suffering three defeats and two No-Results. With Bravo’s guidance and their talented squad, Afghanistan eyes a strong showing in the upcoming tournament as they strive for success on the global stage.
