The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has unveiled the Indian squad for the upcoming three Tests against England, with a few notable changes. Rohit Sharma has been appointed as the captain, with Jasprit Bumrah as his deputy. The absence of former skipper Virat Kohli and middle-order batsman Shreyas Iyer due to different reasons has necessitated adjustments in the team lineup.
Kohli, in a surprising move, has withdrawn himself from the remainder of the Test series. This decision marks a significant moment in his career as it will be the first time he will miss a home series. He communicated his decision to the BCCI and the senior national selection committee. Meanwhile, Shreyas Iyer will also be absent from the squad due to an injury, with his progress being monitored by the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru.
Despite these setbacks, the Indian team is set to embrace the challenge with a strong lineup featuring promising talents and seasoned players. The squad includes the likes of Prithvi Shaw, Shubman Gill, KL Rahul, and rising star Yashasvi Jaiswal. Alongside them, experienced campaigners such as Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, and Axar Patel bolster the team’s depth in both batting and bowling departments.
The inclusion of young talents like Sarfaraz Khan, Dhruv Jurel, and Mukesh Kumar adds an element of excitement and vitality to the team. Moreover, the bowling attack will be spearheaded by the likes of Bumrah, Ashwin, and Jadeja, supported by the dynamic duo of Axar Patel and Washington Sundar.
With the series finely poised, the Indian team under Rohit Sharma’s leadership will aim to maintain their dominance on home soil against a determined English side. The upcoming matches in Rajkot, Ranchi, and Dharamshala promise to be enthralling contests, with both teams vying for supremacy in the traditional format of the game.
