Uttar Pradesh and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) pacer Yash Dayal has been selected for Team India’s 16-man squad for the first match of the two-Test series against Bangladesh. The Test, which will be held at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, is set to begin on Thursday, September 19.
Yash Dayal’s inclusion marks his debut in the longest format for India, following impressive performances in the domestic circuit and IPL. Known for his pace and consistency, Yash Dayal will be eager to make an impact in his maiden Test series, as India looks to bolster their pace attack against Bangladesh.
Apart from Yash Dayal, the squad sees some key returns. Star wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant, after recovering from a severe car accident, is set to play his first Test since the injury. Pant’s return is highly anticipated, as his dynamic presence in the Test format has been crucial for India in recent years. Former India captain Virat Kohli also returns to the Test side after an eight-month absence, providing experience and strength to the middle order.
Another significant addition is Jasprit Bumrah, who last represented India in the 2024 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. Bumrah’s return will be crucial, especially with India’s recent focus on reinforcing their fast-bowling lineup for key international assignments.
