Former Zimbabwe Cricketer Guy Whittall Narrowly Escapes Leopard Attack

Former Zimbabwe cricketer Guy Whittall, known for his memorable performances on the cricket field, recently faced a terrifying ordeal in the wilds of Buffalo Range, Zimbabwe. Whittall, 51, was out trekking through the conservancy he manages with his father when he encountered a leopard, resulting in a life-threatening attack.

The incident occurred while Whittall was accompanied by his trusted dog, Chikara. As the leopard pounced, Chikara bravely intervened, sustaining injuries himself while attempting to save Whittall from the big cat’s claws. Whittall suffered severe injuries and required emergency surgery to address the wounds inflicted during the encounter.

Whittall’s wife, Hannah Stooks Whittall, shared harrowing images of her husband undergoing medical treatment on social media, shedding light on the seriousness of the situation. Despite losing a significant amount of blood, Whittall’s resilience and the swift actions of Chikara were credited with saving his life.

This isn’t the first time Whittall has faced danger from wildlife. In a bizarre incident in 2013, he discovered an eight-foot crocodile lurking under his bed. The Nile crocodile had managed to infiltrate Whittall’s lodge undetected, remaining unnoticed for over eight hours until a startled housemaid raised the alarm.

Reflecting on his encounters with wildlife, Whittall expressed gratitude for surviving both the leopard attack and the crocodile incident. Recounting the events, he highlighted the surreal nature of finding himself in such precarious situations.

Whittall’s resilience in the face of danger has earned him the nickname “the cat with nine lives.” Despite the odds, he remains upbeat and thankful for the support of his family and friends during these challenging times.

As Whittall continues his recovery, his remarkable survival stories serve as a testament to the unpredictable dangers of living and working near wildlife in Zimbabwe’s untamed landscapes.
