Women’s T20 World Cup 2024: The ICC has revealed the schedule for the upcoming ninth Women’s T20 World Cup, set to run from October 3 to 20 in Bangladesh. With ten teams competing in 23 matches across two venues, cricket fans can anticipate 18 days of thrilling action at the Shere Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka and the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium.
The announcement was made at a ceremony in Dhaka attended by prominent figures including Mr. Nazmul Hassan, President of the Bangladesh Cricket Board, ICC CEO Geoff Allardice, and the captains of India and Bangladesh women’s teams, Harmanpreet Kaur and Nigar Sultana, respectively. Before the fixture launch, Bangladesh’s Honourable Prime Minister, Sheikh Hasina, extended her best wishes to the participating teams.
Group A will see Australia, India, New Zealand, Pakistan, and Qualifier 1 compete in Sylhet, while Group B matches featuring Bangladesh, England, South Africa, West Indies, and Qualifier 2 will take place in Dhaka.
The tournament kicks off with an evening match in Dhaka on October 3, with hosts Bangladesh facing Qualifier 2. The opening match sees 2023 runners-up South Africa take on England, setting the stage for an intense competition.
Defending champions Australia will commence their campaign on October 4 in Sylhet against Qualifier 1, and the highly anticipated clash between India and Pakistan is scheduled for October 6 in Sylhet.
The top two teams from each group will advance to the semi-finals, slated for October 17 in Sylhet and October 18 in Dhaka. The grand finale will take place at the Shere Bangla National Cricket Stadium on October 20.
Qualifier 1 and Qualifier 2 will emerge from the ongoing ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Qualifier in Abu Dhabi, with the final scheduled for May 7. Teams are divided into two groups, with the top two from each group progressing to the semi-finals.
To kick off the excitement, ten warm-up matches will be held from September 27 to October 1 at BKSP in Dhaka, setting the stage for what promises to be an exhilarating tournament.
