Riyan Parag showcased a scintillating display of power-hitting, notching an unbeaten 84 off just 45 balls to guide Rajasthan Royals to a thrilling 12-run triumph over Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League clash on Thursday.
This victory marked Rajasthan’s second consecutive win, underscoring the prevailing trend of home teams asserting dominance in the fiercely competitive T20 tournament. Notably, visiting teams have yet to taste success in all nine encounters this season.
Opting to field after winning the toss in his 100th IPL appearance, Rishabh Pant saw his decision backfire as Parag’s fireworks propelled Rajasthan to a commanding total of 185-5. Parag’s innings, studded with six sixes and seven boundaries, proved pivotal in setting up the challenging target.
Delhi Capitals encountered difficulties against the spin wizardry of Yuzvendra Chahal, who returned impressive figures of 2-19 during the crucial middle overs. Despite Tristan Stubbs’ valiant effort of an unbeaten 44, Delhi could only manage 173-5 by the end of their innings.
Rajasthan’s batting initially stumbled during the power play, losing key wickets including that of Yashasvi Jaiswal and Jos Buttler. However, a resilient Ravichandran Ashwin promoted up the order and contributed a vital cameo of 29 runs alongside Parag.
Parag then unleashed a relentless assault on Delhi’s bowlers, particularly targeting Anrich Nortje and Mukesh Kumar in the final overs. His onslaught yielded a staggering 77 runs in the last five overs, propelling Rajasthan to a formidable total.
In response, Delhi Capitals began strongly with David Warner and Mitchell Marsh providing a rollicking start. However, Nandre Burger’s twin strikes tilted the momentum in Rajasthan’s favor, dismissing Marsh and Ricky Bhui in quick succession.
Despite Stubbs’ late heroics, smashing three sixes and two boundaries, Delhi fell short of the target as Avesh Khan delivered a brilliant final over, conceding just four runs.
Parag’s stellar innings, coupled with clinical bowling performances, secured Rajasthan Royals’ victory in a pulsating encounter, highlighting the electrifying spectacle of IPL cricket.
