Seventeen-year-old Indonesian off-spinner, Rohmalia, etched her name in cricketing history on Thursday with an extraordinary performance in her T20I debut. Rohmalia’s exceptional bowling spell saw her claim an astounding seven wickets for no runs, setting a new record in all Twenty20 international cricket.
Her remarkable feat occurred during the fifth T20I of a bilateral series against Mongolia in Bali. Rohmalia’s spell of 20 dot balls resulted in seven batters being dismissed for ducks, propelling her to the top of the charts for the best bowling figures in T20Is, regardless of gender.
Despite Mongolia being set a modest target of 152, they were left in disarray by Rohmalia’s devastating bowling display, eventually crumbling to a mere 24 all out, with no batter reaching double figures. Remarkably, extras contributed 10 of Mongolia’s runs, highlighting the dominance of Rohmalia’s performance.
Rohmalia’s achievement places her alongside the elite company, becoming only the third bowler in women’s T20Is to claim seven wickets in a single match, following the likes of Argentina’s Alison Stocks and Netherlands’ Frederique Overdijk.
The Indonesian cricketing prodigy’s record-breaking debut has captured the attention of cricket fans worldwide, showcasing her immense talent and potential on the international stage. As Rohmalia continues to make waves in the cricketing world, her historic performance serves as an inspiration to aspiring cricketers everywhere.
